Invite the patient to count their breath up to 10 in the following manner:

  • Inhale: 1
  • Exhale: 2
  • Inhale: 3
  • Exhale 10

When they lose count, they restart to 1. If they get to 10, they restart to 1.

This creates a focal point for relaxation.
