Ask the patient where their breath is moving through the easiest. Give them a drop down menu. And invite them to notice that.

Ask them:

“Where is your breath moving through the easiest?

Through the nose?
The throat?
The chess?

“Would it be ok to notice that?”

 

Take the time

Take the time to do a simple practice with them before you start doing the dental work. That will be easier for them to do if you first practice it with them. It will help them be better regulated through the appointment and help manage the anxiety.
